### Responsibilities
* managing Director's calendar, scheduling executive level meetings, printing and organizing materials for meetings
* managing travel for Director and direct reports
* managing Medical Center Memorandums (MCMs), ensuring MCMs are published timely and in correct format
* managing and tracking suspense items and controlled correspondence to include inquiries from congressional offices, OIG, OAWP, White House, ExecVA; ensures suspenses are submitted timely, in correct format, and that the suspense is complete
* serving as resource for Administrative Officers, program support assistants, and secretaries throughout the facility
* serving as service level patient advocate; effectively resolving Veteran/family concerns without involvement of supervisor
* supporting HR functions to include generating 52s, submitting resource requests, submitting recruitment packets, preparing and organizing panels
* serving as subject matter expert on controlled correspondence, suspense management, and medical center memorandums.
* Serving as advisor to other administrative support personnel.

### Qualifications
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 06/20/2018.
**Time-In-Grade Requirement**: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-08 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-07. For a GS-09 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-08.The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. **Note:**Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment.
You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below:
* **Specialized Experience:** You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-07 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization to qualify for the GS-08. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: experience must be close to the work of this job and have given you the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities required to successfully perform the duties of Secretary (Office Automation). Specialized experience may have been gained as a Secretary, Administrative Assistant or other similar position performing duties such as carrying out and coordinating all clerical and administrative work for an office; maintaining and coordinating calendars for/with other staff; taking notes and transcribing meeting minutes; reminding management of appointments and briefing them on important matters to be discussed; making travel arrangements for other staff; independently handling administrative problems and emergencies; preparing responses to letters and general inquires; establishing and maintaining filing systems; preparing personnel actions; monitoring suspense items and deadlines; and providing advice and guidance to other staff regarding administrative matters. You must be able to type at least 40 words per minute.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
**Note**: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment.
**Physical Requirements:**Work is primarily sedentary. The work places no special physical demands on the employee other than some walking, standing, bending and carrying light items such as folders, reports, books, files, etc. However, there is a high level of stress due to demanding deadlines and the need for a high degree of accuracy.
